This is an easy and simplified version of the famous Starry Night Painting by Vincent Van Gogh!

If yous've ever wanted to know how to pigment a starry night (and you are an absolute beginner), then this should exist a great tutorial for y'all!

It'due south also a great painting you can do with your kids and provides an excellent opportunity to learn a little bit about Vincent Van Gogh. Starry Nighttime is ane of my favorite paintings.

The original Starry Night:

Vincent Van Gogh painted Starry Night in June 1889 during his time in an asylum (Saint-Rémy-de-Provence) in Southern French republic.

This was his view from his window and, interestingly, the hamlet was not part of his view. He added the village for creative reasons.

Also, interesting, information technology is said that the brightest star that is closer to the horizon, just to a higher place the mountains, is Venus!

Materials For Starry Night Painting:

Instructions

Lay your canvas in horizontal landscape mode. Use a 3/4 inch launder brush to paint your entire canvass ultramarine bluish. Leave a petty bit of a gap on the bottom.
Paint the bottom land surface area with phthalo dark-green.
Pigment a lighter blue hill backside the phthalo green country in the right side of the canvass.
Paint a further mountain range with low-cal blue mixed with ultramarine bluish.

Paint ultramarine dash lines.
Paint light blue dash lines.
Paint ultramarine blue dash lines throughout the heaven around the stars.
Paint nuance lines on the graound.
Paint an orange crescent moon and orange circles on the stars.
Paint a few oranage dash lines.
Pigment the cypress tree black.
Add together some texture to the cypress tree with a bit of orange before the blackness dries.

Step By Step Directions:

one. Paint The Sheet Ultramarine Blue

Position your canvass in landscape mode.

Using your 3/iv″ flat castor that is slightly wet, pigment full width up and down strokes all across the sail.

Leave a gap at the bottom (almost iii fingers loftier of a gap).

Also, I recommend only doing one thin coat of this blueish sky so endeavour not to apply the paint likewise thickly.

If you demand to water it down slightly, you lot may practise then.

2. Pigment the bottom office of country phthalo green

Next mix phthalo green and ultramarine blue together (nearly equal parts).

Use your 3/4″ apartment brush to paint a wavy land line on the lesser of the canvas.

iii. Pigment A Low-cal Blue Loma

To make "light blue" mix about three parts titanium white and 1 function ultramarine blue.

Use a#12 brilliant castor to paint a hill to a higher place the upper correct part of the land.

4. Paint A Light Blue Mixed With Ultramarine Blue Mountain

Side by side mix the calorie-free bluish with the ultramarine blue.

This should be a blue that is slightly lighter than the background. Pigment another mountain line above the lite blue loma.

This mountain line goes all the way across the canvass.

5. Draw Spirals With Chalk

Brand sure the blue is dry out before yous continue with drawing with chalk. Basically use white chalk to draw a large screw in the sky.

Then draw another screw line simply under the start spiral line.

So draw one more chalk line going all the manner across the canvas but above the mountains.

6. Paint Thick Lite Blueish Spirals Over The Chalk

Use a#12 bright brushand light blue to paint over the spirals.

This line should exist nice and thick (about 2-iii inches wide).

If you need to, make more light blue on your palette by mixing the titanium white with the ultramarine blueish.

Paint both spirals.

Next paint the bottom line role simply in a higher place the mountains.

7. Paint a "light yellowish" circle where the moon is and small light yellow circles where the stars are

You'll need to make "low-cal yellowish" next.

Practise this by mixing cadmium yellow medium white titanium white (about 3 parts yellow, 2 parts white).

Paint smaller circles with lite yellow.

eight. Paint Lite Yellow Dash Lines

Using your #6 circular brush, paint light yellow dash lines above the mountains.

Then paint dash lines on the spirals.

Then paint dash lines effectually the moon circle.

And next there are dash lines around the star circles. Just do one row of these nuance lines.

ix. Paint Ultramarine Blue Dash Lines

Clean all that yellow off your round brush.

Then apply ultramarine blueish to paint dash lines on the spirals. Be careful non to go over the yellows if the yellows aren't dry out all the same.

Next, I redefined my top mountain line by using the ultramarine blue to re-paint the shape.

This is helpful if your yellow nuance lines went over the mountains.

x. Pigment White + Calorie-free Blue Dash Lines

Then paint more than nuance lines! This time use white mixed with the lighter blue (to make an even lighter blue).

Paint dash lines on the spirals.

xi. Paint Ultramarine Blue + Lite Blueish Dash Lines In Heaven Effectually all Stars, Moon And Spiral

Then you'll want to fill up in the rest of the sky with nuance lines.

I mixed ultramarine blue with low-cal blueish to make a blue that almost matched the colour of the heaven just it was a little lighter so it would show up.

Make these dash lines all throughout the gaps in the sky between the stars, moon and spirals.

The management of the dashes should profile with the shapes that are around them.

12. Paint Dash Lines On State

I used the aforementioned "low-cal blueish mixed with white" color to pigment dash lines on the light blueish colina. These nuance lines are going more diagonal.
